Mixtape Music Licenses Are Perpetual, Annapurna Confirms
Annapurna Interactive confirms the indie game's soundtrack licenses are secured. For good.

The acclaimed video game Mixtape, celebrated for its killer licensed music, recently found itself at the center of delisting rumors. Expiring music licenses, some whispered. But publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Beethoven and Dinosaur were quick to shut that down, assuring fans the game's musical heart is secure. For the foreseeable future, anyway.
Publisher's Assurance
Mixtape creative director Johnny Galvatron laid those rumors to rest in a Kotaku interview. The game boasts an extensive playlist, mind you, featuring legends like Devo and The Smashing Pumpkins. But Galvatron confirmed the team paid extra. For perpetual music licenses. Annapurna Interactive backed him up on X, firmly denying any delisting fears.
"We heard some people say MIXTAPE would be delisted due to music licenses expiring. That was a lie," the publisher stated. Peace of mind for fans. And digital availability.

Industry Context
Why the worry? This isn't just paranoia. Games like Rock Band 4 and the original Alan Wake have faced delisting because licenses dried up. Even Grand Theft Auto 4 had to swap out tracks when agreements expired. Europe's tough copyright rules? They make players and devs pretty mindful of this stuff.
What This Means for You
So, what's it mean for you? Mixtape's a safe buy. Enjoy that coming-of-age story, the soundtrack. It's not going anywhere.
What's Still Unclear
Annapurna says "perpetual." But they didn't detail which tracks or artists are included in these agreements. What about future DLC? More music there? We don't know yet.
Why This Matters
Annapurna's move here? It's a big deal. Shows they get the value of artistic integrity. Keeping Mixtape's music safe isn't just good for this game. It sets a precedent. For cultural value. For entertainment. For gaming, period.
