Philips Smart Lighting, teaming up with WiZ, has just announced its latest lineup, led by the HDMI Sync Box 2.1. This new version jumps ahead with HDMI 2.1 specs, handling 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz. It's set to up your home cinema game by syncing your screen's action with smart lighting.

Enhanced Lighting and Synchronization

The upgraded Sync Box isn't stealing all the spotlight. Philips also refreshed its lightstrip. Now, it can shine in both cold and warm whites, with 60 LEDs per meter. Stick it around your TV's back for better ambient lighting.

Philips' HDMI Sync Box 2.1 handles 8K—first in its line.

Beyond the Sync Box, Philips is rolling out new LED strips, portable accent lights, and table lamps. The Gradient floor lamp and new Light Bars can throw color gradients across your walls, syncing with your TV. Lightstrip fans can now choose from RGBIC and Neon styles.

Product Launch and Availability

The HDMI Sync Box 2.1 and its companions hit shelves in June 2026. Prices for the Sync Box start at €149.99 for 55” to 65” TVs, with other sizes available too. New gradient light bars and LED strips come in various lengths and setups, meeting different needs.

A MediaMarkt promo runs May 15-31, 2026, offering the Sync Box with a TV lightstrip for €139.99, a discount from €149.99.

Context: The Evolution of Smart Lighting

Philips, working alongside WiZ, keeps pushing into smart home territory, standing apart from Philips Hue by using Wi-Fi instead of Zigbee. This choice makes smart lighting accessible to more folks, even those without Zigbee hubs.

Philips Smart Lighting products connect via WiZ's app, not with Philips Hue.

What's Still Unclear:

  • Long-term support and updates for the HDMI Sync Box 2.1.
  • How well it plays with third-party smart home devices.
  • If it'll integrate with ecosystems like Google Home or Amazon Alexa.

Why This Matters:

Philips' latest release highlights the push to blend advanced tech into everyday homes. By backing higher resolutions and offering varied lighting options, Philips Smart Lighting (partnered with WiZ) is staking a claim as a leader in boosting home entertainment. With more people aiming for immersive spaces, this is a pretty big deal.
